Welcome to the Random House Copyright & Permissions Web Page.
All published material by Random House, Inc. and its divisions is protected under copyright law. Written permission is required from the publisher if you wish to reproduce any of our material.
All requests directed to Random House, Inc. must be made in writing, by mail or by fax. It is not our policy to grant permissions verbally, neither is it our policy to accept permission requests via e-mail. In addition, no requests are handled on a rush basis.
If you wish to photocopy material for academic use, please contact:
Copyright Clearance Center

Fax: (978) 750-4470
Please take the time to examine the book, including the copyright and acknowledgement page(s).
If your source is an anthology or a collection of various authors' works, you must review the copyright, acknowledgement page(s), the front matter, and the back matter to locate the information pertaining to the original source of the material in the book which you wish to copy. Your request should be directed to that party.
If the book is a paperback, please check the copyright page carefully to see if it contains information indicating that the paperback was published by arrangement with another publisher. In most cases you will need to apply to the original hardcover publisher for permission.
Since many requests require research, please submit your request as early as possible. It takes approximately 3-5 weeks to receive a written response to your request.
Your request should be as complete as possible. Please provide the following information:
- Title and author of the book from which you wish to reprint
- The imprint (Random House, Knopf, Broadway, Dell, etc.)
- ISBN (the number which appears on the back cover above the bar code)
- The exact material you wish to reprint. Please provide copies of our material in context as well as the page numbers on which this material appears in our book.
- Title and publisher of your book, proposed date of publication, price and print run, format (hardcover, softcover, E-book, etc).
- Territories of distribution for which you require permission (US, US and Canada, world, etc.)
- A self-addressed stamped envelope would be appreciated
For non-academic photocopy requests, please indicate which pages from our book you would like to copy and how many copies you would like to make.
For your convenience, we have created a form to be filled out and submitted by mail or fax for your individual permission request.
