Random House, Inc. Discount Codes

At the request of many of our customers, Random House, Inc., has added discount information to our 832 and ONIX title files. This information is made available through a discount code assigned to each unique title record.

The Discount Code is a three-character code proprietary to Random House, Inc., and will require customers to map to and incorporate a Random House, Inc. discount matrix that will be made available in a separate file. The codes allow our customers to map to Random House, Inc.'s published US and Canadian terms of sale for retailers and wholesalers, and thereby determine the standard discount for a title in a particular class of trade. These codes and their values will incorporate only our published terms of sale and not any special offers made by Random House, Inc., or special terms offers made by publishers for whom Random House, Inc., distributes. Random House, Inc., applies discount at the time an order is placed. All purchase orders are accepted and shipped subject to the terms and conditions of Random House, Inc.'s terms of sale. Any questions or disputes about discounts should be directed to Random House, Inc., Customer Service at 1-800-733-3000 in the US and 1-888-523-9292 in Canada.

Two codes are utilized for exception purposes:

• ZZZ = Not Applicable. This code will primarily be used for orderable point-of-sale materials which do not have a true retail price or a discount. Also, sets (displays, assortments) are assigned this code as sets often contain multiple titles which may bill at different discounts, and Random House invoices and applies discounts at the component level, rather than at the set level.
• 3PD = TK, to come. There may be times when a distribution client sells its product at discounts that do not map to the established discount codes. Random House will then establish discount codes as necessary, attempting to do so before any such product appears in our feeds. In the event that titles are included in our feeds before a new code can be established, they will be assigned a code of "3PD.".

The Discount Code Matrix can be obtained from either our Website or our FTP server. It will be updated as new discount codes and values are added to our systems. Updated files will be posted as needed. Please plan to check our servers at least monthly to determine whether you have the most recent Code Matrix based on the file date.
