A landmark event: A specially repackaged anniversary edition of Sandra Cisneros’s bestselling coming-of-age classic, an inspiration to readers and writers for twenty-five years.

Acclaimed by critics, beloved by readers of all ages, taught everywhere from inner-city grade schools to universities across the country, and translated all over the world, The House on Mango Street is the remarkable story of Esperanza Cordero. Told in a series of vignettes – sometimes heartbreaking, sometimes deeply joyous – it is the story of a young Latina girl growing up in Chicago, inventing for herself who and what she will become. Few other books in our time have touched so many readers.

“Cisneros draws on her rich Latino heritage…and seduces with precise, spare prose, creating unforgettable characters we want to lift off the page. She is not only a gifted writer, but an absolutely essential one.” -The New York Times Book Review

Tom Miller to Participate in the LA Times Festival of Books

Como aprendí inglés
(How I Learned English)

The L.A. Times has asked National Geographic author Tom Miller to participate in its 2009 Festival of Books! We're not sure in what context yet, but if your library is in the area, you must go see him. He moderated a great panel for the Reforma conference last year about the varied and nuanced ways people came to learn English, and he would certainly welcome proposals to visit area libraries for speaking engagements. Please contact us at library@randomhouse.com if you have any interest in booking Tom for your library's speaker series.
